Welcome to the Colson Family Genealogy page! This is a resource page for anyone who is researching the Colson and variants surname. Below you will find many things to help you with your research. You will find a message/data board where you can post your Colson queries along with data that you have such as births, Bible records, marriage records, wills, etc. I also have pages that I have set up for marriages, census records, military records, etc.

I am now teaching and don't have a lot of time for my genealogy. Please understand that I can't often answer email right away nor can I post information immediately. I also cannot do research for you. I don't have time for my own. Also, on my worldconnect Colson page, I have posted everything that I have at this time.

COLSON COAT OF ARMS

The Colson Coat of Arms depicted at the right was found by Patty Colson. Thank you so much for submitting this Patty!

"The Colson Coat of Arms is officially documented in "Burkes General Armory". The original description of the arms (Shield) is as follows:

'SA. ON A PALE BETW. TWO PALETS AR. THREE ESCUTCHEONS GU.'

When translated the blazon also describes the original colors of the Colson Arms as:

'BLACK; ON A SILVER VERTICAL BAND BETWEEN TWO NARROW SILVER VERTICAL BANDS, THREE RED SHIELDS'

Above the shield and helmet is the crest which is described as:

'TWO ARMS, SEVERED AT THE ELBOW, DRESSED IN SLEEVES AND HOLDING IN THE NATURALLY COLORED SHIELD'

ONE ORIGIN OF THE COLSON SURNAME

COLSON/COULSON/COLLSON: English Patronymic Name . . . COULSON originates from a very popular Middle Ages given name - Nicholas. Cole was a pet form of Nicholas used in England (primarily) and COULSON is a Scottish/Irish variation or a pet form of Nicholas.(Source of info - Becky Bartley)

COLSON DNA STUDIES

The Corson/Colson Family History group is sponsoring a yDNA testing study. From looking at the page, most participants have the Corson surname. Corson/Colson DNA Study

Another study is through Family Tree DNA. Steve Colson is running a study with special emphasis on those who come from the British Isles. In looking at his results, I noticed that a descendant of John Colson of Bertie Dist, NC has tested. It would be wonderful to have more participants to compare. Colson Families of the British Isles
