Jefferson Mirabeau Lamar? This note from Mary DeLashmit: At one time this was thought to be an early picture of Mirabeau B. Lamar, Pres. of Texas. However, a gun & sword expert said it couldn't be that early. The thinking now is that it is a picture of Mirabeau's nephew, Jefferson Mirabeau Lamar (brother of LQC Lamar, Jr), who died in the Civil War, and was greatly mourned by the family. Thus, the picture would have come down in the family as precious, and of someone special, and the name could have been easily confused with his more famous relation. If anyone can add any info or expertise, please notify Eleanor Colson at EleanorCol@aol.com, and also Mary DeLashmit at delashmit@cyberportal.net.
